Synopsis:

In 1954…

Japan found itself besieged by a beast of incredible size and horrifying strength. Rising from the depths to bathe the nation in atomic fire, the monster known as Godzilla reduced Tokyo to flaming rubble. Eventually, however, the Monster King was defeated, reduced to a skeleton at the bottom of Tokyo Bay by the sacrifice of a brave man, and the terrifying device he wielded. But for the people of Japan, relief was short lived. The advent of Godzilla ushered in an age of giants, as countless gargantuan creatures began to appear in the succeeding decades, all of them inexplicably drawn to Japan. A nation cursed by Godzilla to burn again and again. And the worst was still yet to come…

The year is 1999.

As a new millennium is set to dawn, Japan again finds itself under attack, but this time by an aggressor they have faced before… and one they’d hoped to have seen the last of. Rising from the thundering waves of a typhoon, a second Godzilla emerges to once again bring destruction down upon the Land of the Rising Sun. Faced with the threat of this new Godzilla, the Japanese government begins to put a radical plan into effect… one that they hope will end the threat of the Monster King once and for all.

For the government holds a terrifying secret. They possess the remains of a fallen god: the skeleton of the first Godzilla, recovered from the place where the monster fell 45 years earlier. Using its bones and recovered genetic material, the government hopes to use cutting edge robotics and DNA-computer research to resurrect the beast as a weapon. Japan’s last line of defense against the onslaught of the new Godzilla… will be a Godzilla of their own.

After four years of research and development, the result of these ambitions is the MFS-3 “Kiryu”: a titanic machine built in the likeness of Godzilla himself. A “Mechagodzilla”, loaded with cutting edge weaponry, powered by a DNA-computer and controlled by an elite branch of the Japanese Self Defense Forces. As the first deployment of Kiryu draws near, it will fall to these brave men – and one young women in search of redemption – to save their country from total destruction at the hands of the mighty Godzilla.
