SYNOPSIS:
The year is 1947.
Japan has been brought to its lowest point; devastated by war and broken by the traumas left in its wake, the nation and its people must fight and pray for even the slightest hope of a better tomorrow.
Caught up in this time of sorrow is young Koichi Shikishima, a former member of the Japanese Special Attack “kamikaze” forces, who finds himself forming an unlikely family when he takes in a young homeless woman and the infant she saved from the wreckage of Tokyo. As the promise of a normal, happy life begins to form, Shikishima finds himself stunted by the guilt of his wartime actions and the lingering anguish of a horrific encounter with a mysterious, marauding beast he was unable to defeat.
Now, two years later, that beast has resurfaced, far larger and angrier than before. Its coming will return the shadow of the war to Japan and threaten to reignite the suffering of a nation, plunging its psyche to a level below the lowest.
It will fall upon Shikishima and his fellow war-haunted compatriots – a dedicated scientist, a haughty captain, an inexperienced sailor, and a haunted mechanic – to find a solution, protect their homeland, and face their demons – or bear witness as the monster called “Gojira” rises to reduce postwar Japan from “zero” to “minus”...
