SYNOPSIS:
The year is 1962.
In an age of rapid economic expansion, increasing crony capitalism, and media modernization, the country of Japan finds itself in a unique place in its history. In the swiftly growing medium of television, it is the program with the most advertising that makes the most money. However, in order for the advertising to come, the program must be interesting enough to warrant viewers…
It is in this predicament that the Pacific Pharmaceutical Company finds itself. The dull and uninspiring science program that they sponsor draws in few viewers, resulting in less than stellar ad revenue. To amend this problem, the company’s president – an irritable and idiosyncratic man named Tako – proposes a radical solution: find the show a monster, and find it fast.
And so, an expedition is sent to the remote Faro Island, where just such a monster is rumored to live behind a great wall, worshipped by his people and placated by the juice of a mysterious berry. The expedition is successful, for the monster – a 45 meter tall ape with the strength of a thousand men – is no legend. With publicity and higher ratings ensured, the expedition prepares to bring the beast known as Kong back home…
However, the situation is about to change. As Pacific Pharmaceuticals readies itself for its big payday, a nuclear submarine accident in the Arctic Ocean heralds the return of a force long thought defeated… Godzilla. Finally freed from his icy prison, the beast begins to head, once again, for Japan….
With two giant monsters now on an inevitable collision course, the stage is set for the Battle of the Century: Godzilla – the King of the Monsters – will take on King Kong – the Eighth Wonder of the World – in a titanic clash of atomic fire and primeval fury. Which King will emerge victorious, and when the dust settles, will Japan have survived their titanic confrontation?
