UPDATE #119 (8/21/26): “G-CINEMA” IS GOIN’ TO THE DRIVE-IN!

Good afternoon, cool people!

It’s been far too long since an update, and between G-Fest last month, Kaiju Go! this last weekend, the completion of several upcoming projects, and the announcement of a new book, there’s certainly quite a lot that needs covering!

But all of that will need to wait for future updates. This year’s G-Fest post mortem writeup has taken a ridiculously long time to complete (the weeks following the con have been a very hectic, very emotional rollercoaster on my end, and finding the time to work on it has been tricky), and reflections on Kaiju Go! are also in the works. Plus, there’s that new book, which I’m looking forward to finally, fully revealing soon.

But until then, it’s finally time to let you all know about another cool thing I’m doing. In fact, I’ll be doing it tonight!

That’s right… yours truly is headed to the drive-in!

For the last few years, the Tiffin Drive-In Theater in Ohio has hosted a weekend-long event called Godzilla Stomp, wherein kaiju fans gather under the summer stars to watch a selection of the Monster King’s finest films. And this year, I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the fun as a special guest!

Tonight (August 21st) and tomorrow (Saturday the 22nd), I’ll be on hand to speak about Godzilla history, sell copies of “G-Cinema,” and – coolest of all – join my fellow fans in watching six Big G classics on a screen worthy of his size.

But that’s not all… I actually had the distinct pleasure of supplying two of the films being shown at the event! A few weeks back, the theater’s owner, Michael Cole, reached out to me to inquire about my extensive archive of Godzilla video material, specifically my collection of alternate cuts and dubs. After some digging through my collection, I was ecstatic to provide high-quality, 4K editions of both Godzilla vs. The Thing and Ghidrah, the Three-Headed Monster (specifically the English cuts, if the spelling didn’t give it away) to the event, along with some trailers and a few other goodies from my collection. It’ll be incredibly surreal to see my copies of the films playing on the big screen, and I truly appreciated the opportunity to assist the theater however I could.

Being invited to take part in this event means more to me than I can say. Two of my favorite things in the world are Godzilla and drive-in theaters – two great tastes that taste great together! Add to that the beautiful venue (the Tiffin Drive-In is a truly special place, made even more special by being local), amazing fellow guests (Otakumerica is a great vender run by great people!), and an absolutely killer lineup (including the two Godzilla films that made me a fan as a kid), and you’ve got all the ingredients for a fantastic event.

A tremendous THANK YOU to Michael Cole for inviting me to join the fun, and to the theater itself for keeping the pivotal, historic, and nostalgic institution that is the drive-in experience alive. Keep doing what you do.

If you’re in the area and free tonight, tomorrow, and/or Sunday, be sure to stop by this year’s Godzilla Stomp! There’ll be toys, food, great people, and plenty of monster mayhem. It’s sure to be a stomping good time!

See you at the drive-in!
