SYNOPSIS
In 1954…
The nation of Japan, less than a decade removed from the horrors of the Second World War, fell under the shadow of a giant birthed of mankind’s arrogance. This nightmare incarnate emerged from the realm of myth to bathe Tokyo in atomic fire, its name heard on the lips of thousands as they perished in its wake. In the end, the country’s salvation came at the hands – and from the sacrifice – of a brave and tortured man, whose deadly invention saw its first and only use as it reduced the dreaded beast to nonexistence. Japan was left to rebuild itself, its future seemingly assured…

The year is 1984.
Japan has flourished in the three decades following the detonation of the Oxygen Destroyer. The nation’s emergence as an economic superpower has led to an era of prosperity, and a people content to relish the excesses of modern life. But the world around them is far from at peace. The era of atomic testing has given way to the anxieties of the Cold War, and Japan’s prominent place on the world stage has sandwiched them between two nuclear nations who stand poised to rain fiery doom upon civilization. Mankind, it seems, has not yet learned its lesson.
In the wake of a violent storm at sea, a Japanese fishing vessel goes missing, and history begins to show worrying signs of repeating itself. When the cause of the incident can no longer be denied, Japan finds itself at the center of a firestorm of geopolitical posturing and nuclear flippancy that threatens to tear the nation apart. In the midst of the madness, the fate of Japan’s fragile progress will rest upon the shoulders of an ambitious reporter, a traumatized fisherman, his loyal sister, and a haunted scientist. Together, they will fight to survive the apocalyptic horrors of a city doomed to burn, torn asunder and ground into dust by a messenger reborn.
For within the depths of the Pacific Ocean, that messenger is already stirring. Japan once again lies in its sights, and it will not rest until its hunger has been satisfied. 30 years after its first devastating attack, the King of the Monsters – larger, angrier, and more powerful than before – will emerge to scorch the skies of Tokyo red once more.
Godzilla has returned.
