SYNOPSIS:
The year is 1964.
On the morning following the onslaught of a disastrous typhoon, a mysterious object appears in the waters off the Japanese coast… a gigantic, beautifully colored egg. Once brought ashore, the egg quickly becomes the legal property of a duo of greedy developers, who plan on transforming the beach into a theme park, with the mysterious orb as its main attraction.
However, their actions have not gone unnoticed. For the egg’s true guardian is its mother, the aged yet beautiful Mothra, whose tiny twin emissaries plead for its safe return to their home on Infant Island. Despite the best efforts of the priestesses and a sympathetic trio – the reporter Sakai, his photographer Junko, and scientist Miura – to negotiate its return, the selfish Kumayama and his partner Torahatta refuse, and Mothra is forced to return to her devastated island without her unborn child…
However, the situation in Japan is about to change. Mothra’s enormous egg was not the only thing washed to the shores of the country by the typhoon… and soon, from the silt and sand, a terrifying beast rises to once again strike fear into the hearts of the Japanese.
Godzilla has returned.
With the nuclear titan crushing its way through the country, all hope seems lost. That is, until a radical idea is hit upon… could Mothra be persuaded to fight Godzilla on Japan’s behalf? Even after refusing help to the divine creature and her people, whose island home has suffered cruelly from repeated nuclear testing, can they even dare to hope that she would accept their humble plea for help?
And should she accept, could she ever hope to stand against the might of Godzilla?
