UPDATE #8 (3/20/18): STEVE MARTIN, SIGNING OFF…

With this update, the GNP has officially finished its first writing project… Godzilla, King of the Monsters! – The Steve Martin Report is complete!

I have to say, this was a joy to write.  Putting myself into the place of not only the character of Martin, but the mindset of a 1950’s American reporter was definitely a challenge, but a pure delight all the way.  With Burr’s voice in my head to remind me of what his character would or wouldn’t say, I’ve created a novella that I’m actually quite proud of, and I hope that my fellow fans enjoy it to.

If you do enjoy it, be sure to let me know!  Leave comments on the site, shoot me an email, or chat with me on Facebook.  I’m curious to know what you think of the finished product.

Until then, follow this link to read Part 2.

UPDATE #7 (3/17/18): PUNCH PUNCH PUNCH! MEGALON TURNS 45!

Greetings, G-Fans!

Ah, March 17th. Green beverages are being chugged, insultingly phony Irish accents abound… and meanwhile, Godzilla fans everywhere are cheering their hero on as he pummels the daylights out of a giant cockroach.

1973’s Godzilla vs. Megalon, the delightfully insane and rightfully beloved film that thrilled a generation of baby boomers and went on to become the most widely seen Godzilla film of the entire franchise, turns 45 years old today. And to celebrate, I have completed and published the Prologue to the GNP’s novelization of the movie! Consider it a birthday present to a film I have loved since childhood… and one heck of a funny MST3K episode, of course.

More chapters are coming, but until then, check out the Prologue here!

UPDATE #6 (3/10/18): EXTRA! EXTRA! STEVE MARTIN TELLS ALL!

Greetings, readers!

It is with great excitement that I announce the GNP’s newest project… a novella in two parts (Part 1 of which is available now!) chronicling the attack of Godzilla upon Tokyo… as related by United World News’ brightest reporter…

Its Godzilla, King of the Monsters! – The Steve Martin Report!

This is a little (okay, not so little) project that I have wanted to do for a LONG time, and I’m super excited to finally get the first half completed!  Essentially, The Steve Martin Report is a first-person recounting of the events of Terry Morse’s 1956 “Americanization” of the original Godzilla, told in the form of a written report by the character of Martin, as played so memorably by the late, great Raymond Burr.  The novella is presented as a sort of “in-universe artifact”, a final word report prepared by Steve for his boss in Chicago.

In crafting this retelling of a classic tale, I had the wonderful opportunity to both include Burr’s memorable narration dialogue from the film, and work around and in-between that dialogue, filling in the gaps to create a complete recounting of the events of the film from Steve Martin’s point of view.  Blending my dialogue with the actual script was a fun challenge, and I hope I’ve done that original script – and Mr. Burr – justice with this novella.

Part 2 is nearly completed, so stay tuned for the rest of The Steve Martin Report soon!  Until then, follow the link above to begin the report!

UPDATE #5 (3/6/18): THE COSMIC MONSTER COMETH!

“SEE THE MIGHTY GODZILLA IN A FIGHT TO THE DEATH WITH HIS BIONIC DOUBLE!”

The GNP is proud to reveal the prologue to Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla: The Unofficial Novelization!  This is going to be a fun one to tackle; the 1974 debut of everyone’s favorite mechanical titan of terror is a favorite film of mine in the Godzilla series.  Its a wonderful and insane film, and a joy to adapt!

This prologue is a short one, but hopefully it conjures images of the wonderful opening sequence of the film, and makes you excited to read more!  I should be back with more chapters (to this adaptation and others) soon!

UPDATE #4 (3/2/18): SOCIAL MEDIA!

Howdy, folks!

Just a quick update today…

After a series of conniption-inducing setbacks, internet snafus, and Facebook INSANITY, I have FINALLY set up the official GNP Facebook Page, Twitter Page, and email address!  If you’d like to chat/tweet/follow/like/get updates, then be sure to visit these pages!

The Contact page on the site has been updated, but for convenience, here are the links:

UPDATE #3 (3/1/18)

Happy March, G-Fans!

It’s been an interesting few days at GNP Headquarters. First, I launched the official Facebook page… only to have it get locked 24 hours later. As of now, it is STILL locked. If you’re interested in following the project on Facebook, be sure to keep checking the link on the Contact page. Eventually, it will work. Eventually…

Then, I attempted to create a Twitter page, only to have a snowstorm blow in and muddle my internet connection. This issue also kept me from getting this update sent out earlier. Like I said, it’s been interesting.

But the good news (assuming my connection holds out long enough to post this) is that I was able to use that internet-less time to polish Godzilla: Chapter 2, and start preparations on another, SECRET project that I’m super excited about. More on that one soon.

Until then, here’s Godzilla: Chapter 2 for you to (hopefully) enjoy! (Again, expect a few minor edits on this and other chapters now and then.)

I’m hard at work on more chapters (and fixing/setting up my social media), so be sure to check back soon for more updates! And, if you like what I’ve written so far, leave me a comment to let me know!

Happy reading!

UPDATE #2 (2/25/18)

So, a funny thing happened on the way to Godzilla Chapter 2…

For those of you who have read and enjoyed Chapter 1 (and if that’s you, I can’t thank you enough!), no worries: I am currently working my way through Chapter 2 and hope to have it ready to publish soon!

That said, as I was writing last night, I got to a point where I felt the need to step away and take a breather.  However, instead of closing my laptop and standing up to stretch (a.k.a. taking a breather) I instead elected to jot down some notes on another G.N.P. project.

Well, one thing led to another, and, four hours later… I may have finished the prologue to All Monsters Attack, a.k.a. Godzilla’s Revenge.

So here that is.  Unexpected, but hopefully welcome!

So now I have TWO Godzilla novels in the works!  Hopefully they continue to entertain as I continue to create them!

UPDATE #1 (2/22/18)

Wow, its finally happening!

Hello, dear reader and fellow Godzilla fan, and welcome to the first update for the GNP! To celebrate the launch of the project, the website, the… well, the everything (!), the first update will be the posting of the first chapter of the first novelization I am tackling…

The original Godzilla (a.k.a. Gojira) from 1954.

When thinking about this project over the years, I had always kind of known that this would be the logical place to start. It’s the literal beginning of everything, the first Godzilla story. It’s also a beautiful, important, and deservedly cherished film. In other words, it’s a huge challenge to convert to the written word. Turning something as reliant on visuals as a kaiju film into a book was always going to be a challenge, but tackling the original Godzilla is several layers of CRAZY layered into one, Daikaiju-sized challenge.

But hey, if I can make THIS one work, the other 29 and counting shouldn’t be TOO difficult… right? I guess we’ll see.

Until then, the phrase “How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.” has never felt so appropriate and applicable as I invite you to read – and hopefully enjoy – Chapter 1 of Godzilla: The Unofficial Novelization:

Read it here.

Stay tuned for more chapters and further updates soon!

(NOTE: Posted chapters will always, in one way or another, be a work in progress. The chapter above will very likely be changed and edited multiple times as the project continues. This could be as simple as fixing a typo or changing a word, or something more substantial like adding or subtracting entire paragraphs. When possible (or deemed significant enough by me to mention), I’ll update you on what was changed. This process will, hopefully, allow me to craft the best book I can over time. And make no mistake: this WILL take time, and lots of it. But I’m in for the long haul if you are!)
